Bernard Butler, Norman Blake and James Grant will be performing a unique concert as a trio at the Mackintosh Church in the west end of Glasgow on Monday 31st Jan. It is a beautiful building and promises to be a special event. Monica Queen will be opening the concert with an acoustic performance.
Celtic Connections 2022
Launched in 2019, FRETS is an intimate acoustic concert series promoted by Scottish post-punk guru Douglas MacIntyre – of Creeping Bent/Port Sulphur renown – in his home town of Strathaven. To date, his determinedly eclectic bookings have included Lloyd Cole, The Bluebells, Robyn Hitchcock, Kevin McDermott, Tim Burgess, Hipsway, Roddy Woomble, King Creosote and Altered Images.
Curated especially for Celtic Connections, the project’s first ever venture outside its birthplace features three of today’s most revered and distinctive rock/pop singer-songwriters, together onstage, performing their own back-catalogue picks plus a few choice covers. It’s a rare chance to get up close and personal with Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake, ex-Suede guitar legend Bernard Butler and Love and Money frontman James Grant, all of them also veterans of diverse solo projects and collaborations.
Opening the show, ex-Thrum songstress Monica Queen previews her forthcoming album Stop That Girl, accompanied by producer/guitarist Johnny Smillie.
