MATILDA IN THE MIDDLE – Katy Lironi

Many of you who have attended FRETS will have met our daughter Matilda. Katy has written a memoir – Matilda in the Middle – that will be published soon by Into Books. The book covers Katy’s background in music from childhood in East Kilbride through to moving to Edinburgh joining The Fizzbombs and being part of Edinburgh’s C86 scene with Shop Assistants, Jesse Garon etc, before forming The Secret Goldfish and releasing albums on Creeping Bent. The final gig by the Goldfish was in London in 1999 (supporting Vic Godard and Edwyn Collins) then family life began. 5 children later and the madness really kicked in, rotating around the centrifugal force that is middle child Matilda (who has Down’s syndrome). Here’s some more information about the book and a pre-order link if you are interested in buying the book.

As an update to the recent message about FRETS concerts, thanks to everyone who informed me I’d mistakenly listen 2025 as the year these concerts are taking place, they are of course happening this year.

The remaining 2024 FRETS concerts are BMX Bandits (Saturday 31st August), Michael Head (Friday 6th Sept); Horse (Friday 20th Sept); Norman Blake (Saturday 19th October) and The Cowboy Mouth (Friday 1st November). Details about tickets and information are at the Tickets section of the website   www.fretsconcerts.com – it’s worth joining the mailing list on the website to be emailed upfront about forthcoming concerts.
